UNESCO Geopark Schelde Delta
Scheldeland is one of the regions of the UNESCO Geolandscape candidate. This Flemish-Dutch river delta is a unique cross-border estuary, an area where the tides of the North Sea push and pull on the course of the Schelde, and where saltwater flows into freshwater.
The river Schelde runs like a blue thread through the Geopark. In total, it is an area of 5,500 km², spread across many municipalities and with approximately 1,500,000 inhabitants. It extends across the provinces of Zeeland and North Brabant in the Netherlands, and West Flanders, East Flanders, and Antwerp in Flanders. Together, all partners are committed to the preservation and sustainable tourist development of this nature reserve.
